The thrust rating on your motor is not just a marketing number — it determines the bow plate thickness you need. For thrust under 55 lbs, 5mm aluminum is fine. For 55-80 lbs, step up to 6mm. Above 80 lbs (e.g. Ultrex 112), use 8mm or double-plate construction.
Foot compatibility is the silent killer. Terrova, Ulterra, and Ultrex all have different foot pocket dimensions. Check the exact model before drilling — a "universal" plate that fits "most" bow mounts usually fits Terrova only.
Wiring is where warranties die. For 24V systems under 6 meters, 8 AWG marine-grade tinned copper is the minimum. Anything thinner causes voltage drop at full throttle — the motor stalls, you replace the controller, warranty denied.
Saltwater installs need anodized aluminum or 316 stainless bolts. Mixing metals without tef-gel causes galvanic corrosion. Within one saltwater season a plain aluminum plate bolted with zinc-plated screws will have pits you can fit a pencil tip in.
Finally: always use a breaker, not a fuse. Motors stall occasionally, and a good 60-80A breaker lets you reset without climbing under the deck with a screwdriver.
